Minnesota Humane Society Provides Hay Bank Grant

Fall 2014header2a

The Minnesota Hay Bank is the grateful receipt of a 5th grant from the Minnesota Humane Society (MHS). From Day One, MHS, a statewide education, advocacy, and rescue organization dedicated to protecting the lives and interests of Minnesota’s animals, has supported our mission. Indeed, our founding grant to launch the Minnesota Hay Bank in December 2012 was provided by MHS. Without MHS’s help, the hay bank would not be the success it is today.

Founded in 1869, MHS is the oldest humane society in Minnesota.  From its early victory in the late 1800’s of establishing one of the first laws making cruelty to animals a crime, MHS has consistently confronted the issues, raised awareness, and taken bold action to make Minnesota a better and more humane place for animals.

Please visit the MHS website to learn more about its mission and how you can support this critical organization.

Minnesota Hay Bank Receives Grant from Canterbury Park

Summer 2014 — The Minnesota Hay Bank has received a $3,000 grant from the Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund to support the mission of the Minnesota Hay Bank and feed horses in need this coming winter.

The Minnesota Hay Bank was awarded the grant by the Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund at a time when financial and in-kind donations are needed more than ever. The high price of hay, coupled with a longer-than-anticipated winter in Minnesota and heavy rains this spring, has put added pressure on horse owners everywhere, but especially those already struggling to feed their horses.

“We are so grateful for the support we have received from Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund since we launched the Minnesota Hay Bank in 2012,” said Laura Hutchinson, Chair of the Minnesota Horse Coalition’s Fundraising Committee. “Canterbury has been consistently there for us, with both in-kind and financial support, and this second grant comes at a critical time,” she added.

Since its launch in December 2012, the Minnesota Hay Bank has received over 80 applications for assistance to feed over 400 horses. With the Canterbury Park Minnesota Fund grant, the Minnesota Hay Bank has raised over $13,000 in 2014.
